hey, let's start with a question. What, according to you, is religion?
hmm? what say?
Alright, I'll share my thoughts with ya (do share back)! :P
imo, religion is a philosophy in life, on living life. It's like, a road you follow in life, or rather, a guideline. an ideal path. A simple set of rules meant to be utilized in living one's life. You know, advice on how to live?
A religion is just that. It's flexible, stretchable, malleable and ductile and whatnot. It's not brittle, or rigid. It's the essence, not the entirety. It is not to be enforced on anyone, one must accept it. For a person will only follow the path he wants to, at heart. Not one he has been ordained to.
And that is where I barge in with my trumpets, ideals and visions. The saxophones and bagpipes create a grand symphony for my entry. And thats where I maketh my point:
Religion takes diverse tunes, and unites them into a symphony.
NOT, as some people have it, a humongous cacophony.
See, when people think religion, they don't think philosophy. They think idols, gods, worship, et cetera. And they miss the point entirely.
All those (gods, idols, et cetera) are simply points if focus for people to concentrate on. They are just instruments in a bigger story,
Think of it this way :
We humans, are like beams of light, all going our own ways.
But, ideally, we should all go in the same direction.
So, someone designs a lens, to focus us, to CONVERGE us on a single point.
The idea here is our convergence, out harmony of direction. NOT the lens. That, is simply apparatus.
Wasn't it elementary, my dear Watson?
A religion tells people what the have to do, it provides a larger, contextual, communal goal. It is correctly said to be "higher calling". Not because its the gods above calling us, but because it is a "higher" agenda. Above an individual, not personal. That is why.
So, a religion is like some good trust fund. It's meant to benefit many people, not a few in particular.
And that's where, it seems, it has failed. For we just can't see beyond ourselves.
So, my friends, when to listen to some story of a religion, it's the meaning, the "message" that matters. Not it's acuteness.
I believe I have bored you long enough. Hopefully, it helped someone! ;)
Until next time, then! :)
