Well, theres more to humanity than meets the eye. But something that is immediately apparent in a person is their ability to make their own individual decisions. A person can always decide for him/her-self....right?
Well, that has been troubling me today. Just floating around like an annoying fly. A fly I'd love to swat. But how can I if I don't even see it? Well, I am not confused about the destiny vs free will question. That we can discuss later. I believe in free will, as it's the only thing that gives me any semblance of control. What worries me, is that, in a world beset by expectations, demands, needs et cetera et cetera...can a person make their own decisions?
All your decisions are colored by multiple influences. You wanted to buy that car, but you didn't cause your kids didn't like it. You didn't become an artist cause your parents were against it. I could go on and on... But, essentially, what I want to ask is....are our decisions manifestations of our own will? They sure are manifestations of will....but whose?
Not yours, that's for sure. A person might me given a hundred human rights, but he'll never have the right to be him(or her)-self. Or am I wrong? Can you truly make an uninfluenced decision?
I know, many words I use are themselves are subjective. What do I mean by "uninfluenced"? What IS a "decision"?
I know, the essential answer is no. An uninfluenced decision is not possible. For a simple reason...that no living person in uninfluenced. One is changed by the surroundings, the people you meet, your experiences yada yada. But then, can we call the decisions we make our own? I hope so.
Now to the question of free will vs destiny. I, through a very complex process, reached to a very satisfactory and acceptable conclusion. Well, it simple.....if you were preordained by a grand scheme, what is left to live on, what is left to believe in? Thats the reason I decided free will was my card. That way, atleast I am myself. Which, in short, ensures that I never have any regrets, irrespective of whether I fail or succeed. Atleast, I did what I wanted to! ;)
