The Unbroken

Chapter I

In a small hamlet in the heart of Valenwood, a bosmer named Eizer was born to a young couple. Their first and only child, Eizer was raised with rigorous training from his very birth, learning to fight using bows, daggers and even just his body from the day he could walk, thanks to his father's insistence. However, along with his martial skills, he was also trained extensively in philosophy - never to take the life of another, beast, mer or man unless unavoidable. Just as he learnt to kill, he was taught to avoid it. And while Eizer was a very skilled hunter, often counting among the best the village had ever seen, it was his dedication to the preservation of life that made him stand out. He always killed the older marks, despite the tougher meat. He never once raised his hand against anyone, despite being an unmatched hand to hand combatant - to the amazement of his peers, he spent more time cultivating his farm then he spent hunting.

"He knows not the thrill of the hunt", his peers said. Eizer reflected that it was perhaps for the best that he didn't.

As time went on, it was apparent that Eizer was a capable leader, always calm and considerate - resolving fights without ever raising a finger. Not once had anyone seen Eizer raise his fists outside the training grounds. His wisdom, while unnatural for one of such a young age was a promising trait. However, thanks to his kindness, he was often considered docile, yet his had never been truly tested, so it was naught but a rumor raised by his detractors. As he came of age, he realized he'd come to think of his close friend Vaduel as more than one. She had constantly been at his side, tending to the crops, assisting in healing injured wild animals and rescuing others. When others had laughed at his apparent lack of courage, she had held his hand and helped him overcome his anger. He had grown to rely on her, and she on him. After consulting his now aged parents, he decided to ask for her hand in marriage. To his delight, she agreed enthusiastically and they were wed soon after. After a few years if companionship, he and Vaduel had moved to the elder's hut a little ways away from the village, after the aged elder's peaceful passing. Things were comfortable, and if the work was hard, it's fruit was sweet. Eizer managed the village with the compassion and wisdom many had come to associate with him. All until one fateful day.

As Eizer was returning from the village to his hut after a day of trying to resolve a dispute over whether children should gamble or not, he decided that he'd ask Vaduel to sip some wine with him tonight. However, as he approached the hut, he realized something was amiss. The door lay on the ground, torn from its hinges, and it was unnaturally quiet. He ran headfirst into the hut, to see it ransacked - everything strewn all over. Looters? Here? He ran to his bedroom, calling out for Vaduel, but nobody responded. Fearing the worst, he walked into the room, and almost buckled over and fell.

His beautiful Vaduel lay there, on that bed they'd shared so often...but she wasn't there anymore. Pieces of her dress, torn to shreds, littered the floor. Her blood had soaked into the sheets, which had been crumpled by her desperate grasp. She lay there, exposed and violated, a trickle of blood flowing from her battered lips. Her beautiful face, that he'd held so often in his hands, had been ravaged by multiple wounds, bleeding heavily. As he stumbled and crashed into the door frame, a flicker of light came to her eyes. Ryzoh collapsed on his knees, tears flowing freely from his eyes like a candle set on a forge. She tried to move her hand to hold his, but her arms were too badly bruised, perhaps broken. He moved to her and grasped her hand, as he tried to comprehend what he was seeing.

"I..I..." Eizer couldn't form words. His body shook with his sobs.

"Shh..Remember, remember our love. Remember me as I was, my love. Look not upon this day, and seek not the vengeance you desire. Remember me for what I was, Eizer. I beg of you...remember the woman who loved you so." Words barely scraped out of Vaduel's lips, each delivered with increasing pain, more distorted than the last.

Eizer inspected her wounds. Perhaps there was still something to be done - he could still save her. She had been stabbed many times in her abdomen, one of her legs was bent at an unnatural angle. Her breasts... he couldn't bring himself to bear the sight of the mutilation she had suffered. As he turned to look for medicine, he felt a tug on his hand. He turned back to look at her.

Under all those bruises, she was smiling at him. She shook her head softly, as if to dissuade him from his futile attempts. Her eyes connected with his, desperate to give to him the love her lips couldn't deliver anymore. As he stared at her, his mind numb, he felt her hand go slack. The light was in her eyes no more.

Two days later, one of the hunters came to ask Eizer why he had been absent, to find him unconscious, holding the hand of the marred, disfigured body had been his wife. He was carried to the village, where he was placed in the healer's care, as the whole village tried to accept the shock of what had happened.

A day had passed since before Eizer came to be, lying on a foreign bed in the dark. He rose, his mind refusing to accept what his eyes claimed to have seen. He staggered out of bed, and dragged himself into his clothes. Making his way out of the building, he rushed back to his hut, wanting to be held in Vaduel's arms once more, to find comfort from this nightmare. As he arrived at the hut, his spirit collapsed. The door was lying on the ground, as he'd remembered. He walked in, to see things strewn about, just like his dream. Still clutching hope to his breast, he walked into their room, but there was nobody on the bed, only bloodstained sheets. He could take it no more, he could take it NO MORE! It couldn't be true! It must be a dream, it had to be! He'd never done a thing to deserve this. It just couldn't be.

He woke to the sunlight pouring into his eyes, entering the room from the tattered remains of the blinds. It...couldn't be, could it? His beloved Vaduel..that image in his memory..it couldn't be her, could it? He gazed upon the sheets again. He gazed upon the blood again. He stood there, gazing upon that blood, as the shadows lengthened around him. Each moment was an eternity, an eternity of grief, of separation from his love, his life. Each moment an eternity of torment. Somehow, he found himself alive, breathing as the sun kissed the horizon. He would never kiss her again. He remembered the words she'd said, as she lay there, grasping his hands with whatever little strength she had left. Of all the things she could've said then, she chose to tell him not to pursue vengeance. He realized slowly, that inside of him, a wave had risen. A wave of fueled by grief, by anger. A wave of wrath, a wave that touched the very zenith in its enormity - it would engulf him, annihilate him, become him But she had asked him not to, of all the things he could be denied of, she had denied him justice. But now he couldn't give in to that wave. How could he? How could he betray her? He couldn't even comprehend that thought.

He forced himself to move, his movement stiff, like that of one bedridden for weeks. He walked through the house, his mind a haze. He gazed upon the walls, the floor...they held so many memories. Memories was all he had of her, now. He gathered some clothes, and picked up his weapons. As he walked towards the door that led outside, he realized he wasn't moving. He was just standing there, in the doorway, his body frozen. He closed his eyes, the image of her smile flashed before his eyes.

"Remember me."

His eyes opened, dull with defeat, yet clear with determination. He walked out of the house, and into the forest. This world held nothing for him anymore.

Chapter II

Dawn and dusk flew by uncounted as Eizer made his way ever deeper into the forest, his mind still clouded, his thoughts indistinct. His knowledge of the forest served to keep him alive, avoiding the more dangerous wildlife and picking food from the plants to eat, but he paid no mind to it - it was as if his instinct was working him like an automation to ensure his survival. He skirted around great trees, picking edible berries and fruit from various flora as he passed by. His feet sought to avoid the roots tangled with the undergrowth, his many years of training showing. But as his body made its way through the forest, his mind was lost. And so he went on, a mer whose soul itself had been torn to pieces.

Innumerable days past, as Eizer paid no mind to observing the passage of time. He was now well into the heart of the forest, where nobody ever strayed, but he showed no signs of stopping. His hair was greasy, with dirt, web and other unmentionables littering the now ragged, tangled mess. His clothes were in tatters, barely providing any protection or decency. His eyes were unfocused, but his body, though thinning and dirty, was relatively unharmed. His instincts had preserved him where his will had failed. Perhaps a part of him had already died and had passed into the great beyond. This shell of a man went on, dragging himself through the forest despite having no will to live.

As he rose from where he had collapsed from exhaustion, brushing dust off his face, he heard a little girls voice; it seemed to be crying. Believing it to be some monster trying to lure other creatures, his eyes suddenly focused. Perhaps he could find his end here. A release would be welcome. Perhaps.

As he followed the noise to its source, he was surprised to find out that it was indeed a girl who looked to be no older than ten. A little bosmer girl, deep in the heart of Valenwood. Confused, he approached her.

"What...?"

The girl paused for a moment, looking at him. Then she started crying even louder.

"What are you?" He dragged those words out of his mouth. They felt cold, alien. His voice felt like it had almost died. Perhaps it had. His mind had almost forgotten how to put words together. With some difficulty, he focused his mind and spoke.

"Who are you? What are you doing here? It could be dangerous. Where are your parents?"

The girl stopped crying. She looked at him, tears streaming down her little face. "You aren't going to eat me?"

Eizer was befuddled. Him? What? His mind struggled to think again, after all this time of inactivity. "Me? No. I don't eat people. Where is your family?"

"I don't know. I walked into the forest to play and then I was here. I want to go home." She winced as she spoke, clutching her abdomen. Her hand came away red.

"What happened? Wait! Let me look at it" Ryzoh stumbled closer to the little girl, checking her abdomen, to find a gash from some sharp object, likely a claw or a rock. As his mind struggled to connect his train of thought, instinct took over. He pulled the rather beaten pack off his shoulder. He'd forgotten he had it..it almost felt like a part of him. Opening it, he took out some bandages. They weren't in prime condition, but they'd work. He'd need to clean the wound first, though. Make sure it didn't get infected. He remembered crossing a stream a while back - the fresh water would help. He was sure he could find it. Picking the girl up in his arms gingerly, he started walking.

"Don't speak, and don't move. We need to take care of your wound. Don't worry, everything will be fine."

Eizer opened his pack, checking what he had inside. He had a little metal pan, but it would have to do. Foraying into the forest, he found some kindling. Luckily, he also found some herbs that he could simmer in the water that would help clean the wound. Sadly, he couldn't find any to reduce he pain. Well, he'd have to make do with what he had. Taking some water from the stream, he managed to light a fire. It would take a while before it was hot enough to boil water.

"Are you going to cook me?" The girl asked, his eyes wide with fear.

"Didn't I tell you I don't eat people? I'm just going to clean your wound and bandage it."

"Will it hurt? I don't want to hurt."

"Yes it will, but not much. I'm sorry, I tried looking for some herbs to help relieve your pain, but dusk is coming and I couldn't look very far." Eizer finished as he rose to put the pan on the crudely dug out fire pit. Well, his hands and stones could only do so well. He sighed, "Are you still scared I will eat you?"

The girl nodded. Eizer looked at her and smiled warmly. Or tried to, as his facial muscles seemed to have forgotten how.

"I won't eat you. I eat fruits and berries. Sometimes animals, like this rabbit that I somehow caught. Actually, that's what we're having tonight. It'll taste bad, since we don't have any salt or seasoning, but a full stomach should help you sleep."

Saying thus, he got up and soaked the bandages in the water. Then he went to work on the girls abdomen, taking care to not put her in more pain as he cleaned her wound.

"Do you want to go home?" Eizer wondered if he could do it. He remembered where he'd found her. It wasn't too far, as it turned out the stream passed fairly close to this are. Seems like he'd been following it upstream for a while - it must've been his source of water. He thought about it - her footsteps were small and light, and it hadn't rained in a while. However, seeing how torn her clothes were and how her arms were scratched, it seemed that she'd scraped through the undergrowth. He could use that, but it would be hard going.

He looked at her as those thoughts passed through his head, and saw her nodding.

"Well, now for food. Don't move too much, I'll bring it to you. We have to eat out of the pan anyway."

A few hours later, Eizer lay on the ground as the night chill settled in. He gazed at the clear sky, at the twinkling stars and the twin moons. It was a nice night, if somewhat chilly. Vaduel would've loved to walk with him tonight. Vaduel. His eyes misted over as he thought of her, her smile, the scent of her freshly washed hair. How she'd felt like she fit perfectly into his arms. She'd want this, she'd want him to take care of this girl. And so he would.

As he lay there thinking, the little girl crawled up next to him, holding on to him for warmth, Ryzoh smiled a bittersweet smile.

"What's your name?"

"Lillisa"

He turned around and held her, shielding her from the chill. Perhaps he couldn't die just yet.

He woke next morn, wondering if it had all been a dream. However, when he found the girl clutching his side, he couldn't help but smile in relief. Seeing another soul was...it awoke something in him. Something he'd thought dead.
He rose, washing himself and trying to clean off some of the dirt that caked him, and tried washing his hair. It didn't do wonders, but at least it felt better. As the little girl rose, he picked her up in his arms.

"You shouldn't walk yet."

Shouldering his pack, he went back to where he'd found her. Time to find her home. Who lived so deep in the forest anyway?

A couple of days and some false tracks later, he noticed that the trees were thinning. Perhaps a clearing? Or perhaps he'd reached the end of the forest. As he came out of the trees, he could smell woodsmoke, and noticed other signs of habitation. Before his eyes was a village of sorts. There were huts, and there were people. This was unexpected.

Chapter III

To his surprise, Eizer was received with apprehension instead of jubilation when he returned the girl, the villagers eyeing him warily. Despite their appearances, however, he was given clothes and a room to stay. He had his first meal in ages, and it was one of the best meals he'd ever had. Yet it was also the worst meal of his life, for it was without her.

He soon found out the cause of the apprehension, as he was informed that the village was inhabited primarily by werewolves, though there were also normal mer living there. They had accepted Hircine for what she'd given to them - he'd heard it called curse, and he'd heard it called a boon, but these werewolves, they had something different to say. They believed it was what you made of it - and they had made it a gift here. They were stronger, hardier than regular mer, and thus they could work more - the village was rarely in need of anything. It was a small, secluded life they lived, but it was a comfortable one. Far away from civilization, they had little to fear of prosecution, and the forest was their playground. The regular mer relied on them for it - and this surprised Eizer, for he'd never heard of werewolves and mer coexisting. Yet here it was. Those werewolves were not only calm, they were also considerate - they didn't hunt for sport, but only for food. Despite their power, they didn't kill the greater beasts of the forest, sticking to regular game like elk and rabbits. They even farmed! It changed something in Eizer, to see those who he'd once known as little more than monsters live such a life.

He asked if he could stay with them, and he was accepted. Lillisa had nobody to care after her, for her mother had died in childbirth and her father had never been around anyway. She needed a caretaker, and they reasoned that if he tried running, they could catch him before he could get too far. However, Eizer had no intentions of running anywhere. In Lillisa, he had found someone to love, someone to live for again. Her smile lightened his soul, as he worked with the others in the village. He often cooked for her, and taught her what he knew of his crafts - cooking, using weapons and other skills he'd acquired. To his delight, she was learning rather quickly. Some nights, he would cry himself to sleep as he remembered his love, and wondered how happy she would've been if she were here. How happy he would've been.

It was on one of those nights that Eizer woke up to the sound of a woman's scream. He ran out of the house, only to see a few houses on fire. There was a number of men walking through the village, dressed in heavy plate. He happened to have come out as they had drawn close to his house, and as soon as they saw him, they quickly changed formation to surround him.

"Die, cur! We shall rid Nirn of your kind!" One of them yelled.

One of them, wearing a rather ornate chestpiece raised his sword at him "No longer will you terrorize these poor villagers. We are here to protect them!". Saying thus, he took a step towards Eizer, readying his sword.

"Wait! He isn't one of them!" Shouted a man wearing white robes. "Throw him with the others"

As they moved to grasp Eizer, he tried to twist free of their grasp "Lillisa...".

Then, several things happened in quick succession. As the man holding his arm turned, a shape flew from the darkness towards the armored warriors. Before Eizer realized that he had been freed, there were four werewolves fighting the men. Eizer quickly withdrew.

He looked around. Things weren't going too well for the village. Some of the houses were burning. He could hear crying, and there was smoke everywhere. In various places, groups of men were fighting werewolves, and they seemed to be winning. He saw as one of the men swung his sword at a werewolf and the werewolf howled in anguish, though it seemed to be a shallow wound. Silver swords?

His mind raced, but it was too much to take in. Behind him, he could hear the sounds of fighting draw closer.

"Lillisa.."

He drew towards his hut to make sure she was safe, but as he got closer, he saw a man toss a tinderbox towards it. It lit up too quickly - there was magic at work here. He ran towards the hut, but the man turned to face him. He was wearing chain, and carrying a greatsword. Locking his eyes onto Eizer, he readied himself. Apparently he'd taken Eizer for a werewolf - he had no choice but to fight.

The hut was burning fast, he couldn't spend precious time fighting this man, especially not without weapons. Unless he acted quickly, Lillisa would be burnt alive. Suddenly Eizer fell on the ground on his fours, his body shaking as if he was sobbing.

The man drew closer, curious to what happened. As soon as he came within his reach, Eizer rose quickly, throwing dirt into his eyes. As the man reacted to the stimulus, Eizer quickly moved to jab him in the throat - the one opening he'd seen. As the man buckled in pain, Eizer wrest his sword from his grip and landed a blow on his head with pommel, using all the might he could muster. The man collapsed.

Ryzoh rushed towards the hut, throwing the sword into the fire. "Lillisa!" He screamed, running inside the hut.

"Lillisa! Where are you?"

Eizer spun in place as he heard something creak behind him. As some dust fell on his face, he realized too late what was happening. The roof caved in on top of him, and his vision went black.

The Blundering, Bumbling Heart

Come over, let us acquaint,
Witch a fickle creature caged in my breast.
Lord knows, why it is such a saint,
In a vile world of evil and unrest?

The winds do graze the grazing beasts,
But they incessantly pay no mind to it.
But at the sight of such noble feasts,
Does seem the happiness of this heart to be writ.

Alas, for from its mistakes won't it learn,
Even when naught can its dedication earn.
When slighted, it still refuses to crash and burn,
But instead, its other cheek to its assailant shall it turn.

Meet this fool, and at its folly do wonder,
Why it returns, only to commit the same blunder?
Maybe I am blind, this I can not see,
That the gift of being able to love is all I need.

Renewal

Life has had it's series disasters, and and now I find myself missing what I once thought I desired no more - the allure of pouring myself out into words, open to the world for anyone to read.

It's been a really long time since I've shared anything, I admit. However, that's going to change now. For anyone who still reads or remembers me, I'm here to stay.

Look forward to more posts, coming soon!

Aah

This is something I once started as a pet project. It's just a write for now, but it does hold.....something for me. I just wanted to share it here.

Lights fade in.

A man and woman hold each other in a tight embrace, their eyes squeezed shut.
The man is wearing travel clothes – sneakers, pants, and shirt with a jacket. He is also wearing a backpack. The man’s face can be seen; his eyes are watering, but he doesn't let the tears flow. There is also a suitcase close to his shoes, which are battered but have been polished to a shine. The man is clean shaven.

The woman is in her nightclothes – her clothes are crumpled, and show signs of extensive use, being rather ragged, betraying that she is barefooted. Her face is hidden from view, being behind the man’s head.

They part, their heads bent down.

The man holds the woman’ face in his hands, bringing her face up to meet his eyes. Their foreheads touch, and for an unending moment, their eyes say the word their lips can't.
Then the woman turns her head away, as if she can bear this no longer. The man closes his eyes and turns his face away from her, his strength breaking as a lone tear traces a path along his cheek.

He bends down, picks up the suitcase, and slowly proceeds towards the door.
The woman is looking down, sad, she doesn't want to look at the man, and she doesn't want him to see her face. She is feeling dismal, as evident by her body - her shoulders are bent, her torso hunched in.

The man slowly starts turning about, to look at her again. To fulfill that desire, one more time.

Before he can see her, she quickly straightens, summoning strength from unknown depths smile at him, to reassure him with the love in her eyes.
A shadow of a smile appears on the man's face; and then, he turns around again, slowly turning the knob, the door creaking open. He walks away.
As soon as the door shuts, the smile on her and the light in her eyes slip away like unwelcome strangers, and as her eyes water, she cups her face in her hands.
Her body heaves with silent sobs.

Lights fade out.

Lights fade in.

The man is sitting on a chair, across a table from two men dressed in suits. Only his back as visible, as he is turned away. One of the men is sitting directly opposite to him, his opulent dress and pinched face in clear view. The third man is sitting off to the side, but he is looking at the man with rapt attention from behind his spectacles.

The men are richly attired, as shown by the fine cut of their garments and their superior condition. Their wealth is ill-hidden in their visible accouterments, perhaps for that very purpose.

The man’s clothes in stark contrast to his company. His shirt is tattered, his trousers frayed. His sneakers are coated in a layer of mud and dust. His hair is unkempt and greasy.
As he turns to the side for a moment, a glimpse of his face is seen; it is grimy, and he has slight stubble, just a shadow on his cheeks.

The man is wearing a forced smile.

His eyes are in pain. They speak of a man caught, a man faced with options he can't afford to choose from. Faced with a question that can break a man, and he is cracking.

A smart, new briefcase sits in the middle of the table. One of the smartly dressed men nods towards it, as if it’s the reason for this moment.

The other gentleman looks questioningly at the man, his eyebrows upturned in a quizzical manner, with a quick widening of his eyes indicating a query. However, the smile playing on his lips gives away that his concern is just a show.

The man gazes at the briefcase for a long moment. He then looks at the man in front of him, and then slowly turns to the other gentleman, his eyes asking a question the men refuse to acknowledge.

Suddenly, as quick as lightning, the man grabs the briefcase’s handle, straightens up, and runs away from the tables and through the door, all in a flash. His chair falls over in his wake, as other people gape at his rather hurried exit.

The men slowly get up with exaggerated laziness, unconcerned for the attention they've garnered. The gentleman who sat opposite to the man pulls out a cell, typing something and putting it back in his pocket.

While the other man sends the message, the third man pulls out a gun, turning it in his hands, looking at it with an amused expression. He rubs its side, as if out of habit, then replaces it in his pocket. He doesn't look amused anymore.

Slowly, he turns his face to look at the other man, who has just replaced his cell. They shrug at each other. Their faces are completely blank.

But their eyes are speaking.

Lights fade out.

Lights fade in.

The woman is sitting in a chair, in her garden, her chair angled away, hence only her side is visible. She has headphones plugged in, and is deeply engrossed in reading a book. She wears a simple shirt, and a long skirt, perfect for a summer evening. Her lips are red enough to be noticed by the audience as slightly out of the ordinary.

Except for the chair, there is not a single ornament in the rather threadbare lawn.

The man staggers slowly onto the lawn from behind the woman, bent over slightly at the waist, his body heaving, showing clear signs of exhaustion. His head is bent down, as he takes a moment to collect his breath. His face is visible, his eyes wide open and mouth gasping for air.

His clothes are utter rubbish. His shirt is torn. He has no shoes. He is coated in dust and grime. His hair is wild, and dirty. He now has noticeable stubble, almost a beard. It’s scraggly and unkempt.

His head turns up, and he sees the woman sitting in her chair. He can see the side of her face, her lost in the novel, as she turns a page.

His eyes become wistful; for a moment, he almost looks like the man he once was. A fleeting ghost of a smile plays across his lips for a moment.

His lips come together, then part, as if to say something, but then they close again.

As he slowly drags another step, a gunshot rings out from somewhere out of sight.

His body spasms, his shoulder arches back. He stumbles, his strength clearly faltering. But he doesn't fall.

His mouth opens a little wider in surprise, his eyes betraying the infinity of pain that is now his strength.

He stumbles a little, then, with visible effort, straightens a little so that he can see her across the lawn.

A small sigh escapes him. He then begins speaking something, but he simply can’t.
All he manages is, “aah”.

His eyes close, and the smile on his lips doesn't die.

A single tear leaks down his left cheek. He looks up her again, tears streaming down his face.

The smile still doesn't die.

He falls onto his knees, still looking at her, as he and his breath part ways.

For a moment, he is frozen in time. He is on his knees, his chin touching his chest, with his eyes closed and a smile on his lips, as if in prayer.

The moment passes; he falls over.

The woman turns a page.

Lights slowly fade out.

Children

Sometimes, we question the purpose of life. Our existence becomes a burden to be carried, rather than a gift to be enjoyed. It becomes a weary, repetitive schedule, a rut we all fall in and yearn to escape. It becomes unbearable, freedom becomes all promising.

In those moments, the sight of a child's eyes, the light in them, full of unlimited wonder and untold mischief is a true savior. The eyes, they convey more than my words can ever hope to say, the shine brighter than a thousand burning suns, and speak louder than our conscience itself.

Those eyes that speak such are capable of miracles no man has wrought - they can revive flagging strength and embolden a trampled will. They can find the good in the evilest of hearts, they can find the light, they can be the light, when all is dark.

A child in itself is a miracle - its love given form, a symbol of a union of souls, the bright spark that rises when two flames mingle, a bundle of wonder and joy unrivaled. A child, after all, is the greatest act of creation that can ever be performed, and the fact that it can never be performed alone speaks for how truly wondrous it is.

I was lucky today, to find three kids in the metro, running and playing around without a single care in the world. Here I am, attempting to share some of the spectacle that I enjoyed today.
Some may call it a little joy. I'd consider a reminder instead.

A reminder of what our lives are for, from birth unto our last breath -

A pursuit of happiness.

Shashank.

Somewhere, at a point in time and space, me and Shashank became friends.
That point of time and space hence became so badass that all the surrounding points of time and space couldn't resist it, and collapsed into it, blurring that moment in everyone's heads, and leaving only the one instant behind - the moment we became friends.

You're probably some chump on the other side of the screen, wondering why you're even bothering to read this.

Let me tell you why -
Because ever since Jay and Viru, you've never seen another tale about a friendship so awesome that you went to your pillow and cried manly tears of awesomeness (even if you aren't a man - yes, it's that awesome).
Since I'm no Morgan Freeman, you will not be getting an awesome voice over, no matter how much you desire it. (However, if you can imagine that he's reading this to you, it'll seriously turn this awesome post into the very epitome of awesomeness people use as a yardstick thousands of years into the future)
So make yourself comfortable. Get your cup of coffee, fold your newspaper and throw it into the bin, and put on that comfy pair of pjs you wish you owned. It's about time you experienced incidents from the greatest friendship of the 21st century.

Since this is beyond any other form of logic, lets begin this recounting chronologically.

You see, Shashank and I didn't start off as friends. In fact, to be completely honest, we started off as pseudo-ambivalent enemies. To make things simpler, I'll be nice and start from the beginning, so that your puny mortal brain can keep up.

Both me and shashank began our 11th grade in the Army Public School, Bhopal. The first few days were the general chaos, as nobody (barring me) knew shit about what they were going to do with their future, and between general confusion and mutual friends, me and him became what one would call cordial acquaintances. Following that, however, the chump (as he'd not imbibed any of my awesomeness - he was still a slow learner back then), made the idiotic decision that he would try to become an engineer. Me, being the smart me that I was, immediately refused to acknowledge him as a possible friend of mine, and helped along by a difference in divisions, we went our own ways.
Now what I must mention here, is that I was a silent guy when I was in eleventh grade. And by silent, I meant silent-hanging-from-the-ceiling-deep-in-though type of silent, not his-periods-are-on kind of silent (not that they didn't exist - I simply wasn't one of 'em). Also, I refused to smile at the senile anecdotes and two liners my classmates labeled "jokes" (if anything was a joke, it was their definition of one). Being the lonely, silent, no too friendly type, everyone decided to make fun of me, and started off this phenomenon of writing LOL wherever they could (on book covers, walls, errant flying pages, crippled unicorns and sterile dragons and whatnot), presumably so that I would laugh/smile and prove my humanity (How does smiling make you human? I mean, is that how the dudes in the cave 3K years ago knew each other? That smiling buffon there is my species. No wonder the planet is in shambles). Although I must mention, the exact motivation behind it remains cloudy till date (even it's perpetrators aren't sure why, exactly, they did what they did).  Amongst those buffoons, was my (now) beloved friend, Shank. Questioning my humanity (on the basis of a smile, no less) and making a human chain which chanted LOL AND followed me to the corners of the school did no wonders for his standing in my eyes, further helped along by the pedophile mustache he then adorned himself with.

For nearly an year after that, we remained mere acquaintances, if somewhat frosty towards each other (we each though the other to be weird crackpots - which is the truth, anyway). This went on, until there came to our principal's attention that there was a regional level debate on the cards, and her usual team of buffoons was nowhere near good enough to participate. This led to a wild hunt for talent, which then, led to (no surprises here) me, the chump, and a girl named Ishita. Now, had this been a novel, I'd have written an entire chapter on her, however, this isn't one (appearances can be deceiving), and hence all you'll get is her name and the fact that at no point of time were either of us romantically involved with her (so your love triangle fantasy shall stay unfulfilled). It then proceeded to a long ass train journey, where I immediately crushed the ice with the awesome pizza I'd gotten from Dominoes (I still have a picture of me feasting on it - I'm such a beast! B|). Also, if you do not know what a pizza is, I suggest you google the word harakiri and apply the technique to yourself. I've heard it relieves you of your ignorance almost immediately, while still saving some honor, so that someone can still deliver an eulogy at your funeral.
One train journey later, we arrived at our destination - Naseerabad, which, excluding us, had nothing worthy of anyone's attention in it. Off we went, to our rooms, to discover that we shared a room (the lulz), though, by the mercy of god, we each had a bed to ourselves. This began a trip where we made tons of friends, clicked a shit ton of pictures (that was just me - he simply featured in them), visited the famous Dargah, and misplaced a set of underpants. Also, someone(s) fell in love (nothing of note, since neither of them went anywhere). Suffice to say, we, and (thanks to us) everyone around us, had the time of their lives. Somewhere in that crazy ride, Shashank and I grew to trust each other (probably helped along by the fact that he'd shaved off his pedo-stache, and my genral aura of awesomeness), and had shit tons of fun. Oh and, the debate - Shashank won the best interjector (because, honestly, he took my advice), and I won nothing (because I didn't). It was one of them hardcore events, so nobody got a trinket for participating. Honestly, nobody gave a fuck either.

Well, with that behind us, we discovered how truly awesome the other one was (Shashank had been working hard on it), and decided tell our past to go fuck itself. On to the friendship.

If I mention all the tales of awesomeness, you'll still be reading this while your grandkids wet themselves about the trillion dollar movie based on our lives. And still not be done. Also, there's the small matter of your brain exploding from the sheer awesomeness you'll be exposed to, if I continue the Adventures of Reizo and Shashank.

Me, being the kind soul I am, will just mention a few of the events that make our friendship worthy of the awesomeness it lays claim to, and you can use your imagination to try to comprehend how amazing it really is (not that your imagination can even come close to the truth - but you can certainly try).
Well, lets see - lets not count the endless hours of gaming, basketball, talking around, pranks and dance. Let's ignore all the night outs and the Pepsi on the floor. Let's also turn a blind eye towards the female half of the human species, and our (mis)adventures there too.
Even if all of that had never happened, Shashank and I would still have been the chaddi buddies we already are. You see, when I crashed my bike and almost drove a rock through my abdomen, he came and carried me to his mom, accompanied me to the hospital, and when all the bandaging, medication and advice were said and done, got me another bottle of Pepsi. You see, when I helped him write his personal essay, I realized how hard it had been for him to cope with his more than an year long stay in the hospital, lying crippled on a bed. You see, he was the first person I ever opened up to, about my experiences in Kota.
You see, we applied for USA together, and made it here together.

You see?

I know you don't. But I forgive you, because that's something my friendship has taught me.
How to forgive idiots and co-exist with them.
I'd highly recommend you try it out, too.

Prequel

“Ardent are those whom fate has ruled against.”

Lucifer's eyes opened slowly, like the petals of the sunsinger, as he regained consciousness.

Again.

He shook his head, his long hair whipping about. As he stretched, a searing fire shot up his back, and he let out a hoarse cry of pain.

Wonder how grievous the wounds must be, even death always takes time to heal them.

Slowly, pushed himself up, the motion leading to a million points of pain all over his body. The pain was crippling, his breath came in ragged gasps. He fell again.

Patience. Just, patience.

He lay prone, his body numbed, unable to even feel the wind that he was sure blew those noxious fumes towards him. He didn't even bother trying to looking at himself – he knew that there was no part of his him that was unharmed; looking at it would only make him more conscious of the pain. Lucifer had learnt the value of patience a long, long time ago.

Finally, after what seemed like endless hours, he finally moved. He looked towards the skies, looking at the boiling clouds, billowing red and black, like cloying, congealed blood, with no indication of a true sky behind it.

Nothing has changed. Nothing ever changes. Why?

He finally decided to try standing again. Surprisingly, he found he had regained some feeling in his body – he was healing fast. Way too fast. Usually it took seven tries before he even got this far, and at least twenty more before he could even stand. Curious, he decided to try standing up. Again, to his utter amazement, his feet actually supported him, he tried to straighten his torso and -

Aaaaarrrgh!

Searing pain shot up his wrists and ankles. He almost fell down again.

How could I forget the manacles?

He looked at them, the manacles that bound his arms and feet. Utterly black, they were extremely glossy and smooth, like polished onyx. Long, thick chains of the same material connected to his manacles and crawled away, until they went down in a hole, to who knows where. All he could tell is that they were bound to something strong, as even when he bore the pain to try and break free, he simply couldn't, until he simply fainted from the pain.

Patience. Just, patience.

He must repeat the cycle anew. He would have to wait for what seemed like endless eons again, starving, his body slowly withering, whatever strength he possessed, sapping, until he was thin enough to slip from those manacles, and then try to escape again. Not that he would succeed.

What other choice do I have?

He looked about. He had seen this place endless times before, and he would likely see it for all eternity. He utterly detested it, detested everything that existed here.

Always, always on the summit on this black, perfectly hemispherical mound of not-obsidian. Always bound to manacles that fell down a hole right at the apex of the hill, always with that blackened pool of blood for a sky. Always with an endless horizon, with everything around the hill shrouded in a rolling, black mist. Always the sounds of infernal screams and terrifying growls escaping the mist. Always, always, always, always, always.....

He fell into a stupor, lost in his thoughts. He was tired, so tired. The endless deaths sapped his willpower. It was always the same. The same waiting to decay enough to escape. The same slipping down this infernal mound, as slippery as grease and as dark as midnight. The same running into the forest, and then – that’s where the memories always ended. He speculated that it must be some sort of magic, speculated as he'd always speculated an endless number of times before. And then, always, the same waking up and discovering pain again. The only thing that changed was the pain, its patterns and its intensity.

Must be different kinds of death.

A grim smile traced his lips.

They'd trapped him in an endless cycle. He still remembered them. He remembered the betrayal from one he had once called brother. He remembered his fall.

Gabriel.

That single word ignited an inferno of incandescent fury in him. He had called him brother, given meaning to his creations. They'd worked together, with perfect, unquestionable trust. He'd trusted Gabriel more than he'd trusted their own creator. Only for -

Betrayal.

It had been ages since he'd last remembered his binding to this place. Casting his mind back, he couldn't even remember when he'd last thought of it. But now he remembered, he remembered it in painfully, exquisitely vivid detail.

The Fall of Lucifer

Lucifer was working on the doe, and having finished her body, was crafting horns for her, when suddenly, he heard the creator's call. For some reason, something seemed wrong with the call, as the ground itself shook, the air trembled. The creator had called for Lucifer himself.
Expecting to be asked to display his latest crafting, he took the incomplete doe along. The horns would have to wait.

He walked into the Garden of Eden, his true masterpiece. This was the place where he had first created the beings they now called trees, and the creator had blessed one of his creations, creating the greatest spectacle ever. The Yggdrasil, the tree of life. The first, and only object in all of creation to be touched by the creators hand, granting it a divine presence that further enhanced the garden to an almost ethereal beauty. He wondered why the creator would summon him to the sanctuary of the creators one and only creations, the sentient beings called humans. Speculating on the possible reason, he crossed the gilded gates into the garden.

And stopped.

Something was wrong. There were no birds chirping, there was a gale blowing instead of the genteel breeze that was usually present. And then he realized something. The humans were missing. Adam and Eve were gone. Barring the trees, there wasn't a single living being in the garden. Not even those infinitesimally tiny beings he had created. Intrigued, he walked on.

Gabriel was standing under the shade of Yggdrasil, his back turned towards Lucifer. Perhaps he heard Lucifer approach, for he turned around as Lucifer joined him under the tree of life. Lucifer smiled and was about to greet his brother when he saw Gabriel's expression.

Rage.

“What happened? Why do you look upset?” Lucifer inquired

“Dare not apply to me those fiendish creations of your, Lucifer. I had not known what a blackguard you were, you construct of filth! You will pay for your actions!”

“What-?”

Utterly confused, Lucifer tried asking what had happened. But before he could even speak, he felt the creator's presence.

The creator manifested himself in front of them. He appeared as a masculine, man-like creature. However, none of his person was visible as he was armored from head to toe in shining golden armor, inscribed with intricate runes of indescribable power. It was the creator's avatar, at full power. It's mere presence was incredible – like an unstoppable force, but a force of life, a force that had begun it all.

He wondered why the creator manifested an avatar, he could easily speak to them, wherever they were. Even calling them in the same place was intriguing, as they didn't need proximity to communicate. Atleast the avatar explained the absence of higher beings – it radiated an aura of life, of sentience. It would influence creation too strongly. The mere thought had barely crossed his mind when the doe on his shoulder suddenly came to life, proving his doubts true. He put the doe down, and she swiftly bounded away. As she vanished behind Yggdrasil, Lucifer wondered how she would fare in future, being thus touched by the creator.

As he turned back, the Creator addressed him,

“Gabriel has accused you of divine treason, Lucifer, you now stand in trial. Speak your words with care, for it's my judgment that you'll face, unless you prove that you aren't guilty.”

Lucifer was stunned. Judgment? Treason? Gabriel? What was going on?

“You are hereby accused of deluding Adam and Eve to consume the fruit of Yggdrasil, despite my proclamation banning it, and leading them astray. Gabriel managed to stop them from consuming the entire fruit, however, the damage has been done. Gabriel gives his word that the humans said you'd instructed them to eat the fruits, telling them it was my decree. Is this true?”

Lucifer couldn't believe it. Betrayal. It was such an alien concept. He had only imagined it, once, and found it abhorrent. Could it really be happening?

“Do you have nothing to say in your defense, Lucifer? Silence will be considered assent.”
In a perfectly level voice, the creator's avatar spoke to Lucifer.

Lucifer realized that the avatar was saying something critical. However, he couldn't comprehend. He couldn't respond. He couldn't, he couldn't....

Is this really happening?

“Lucifer! Unless you defend yourself, I'll have no choice but to consider you guilty, and punish you. This is your final chance. Do you have anything to say?”

Suddenly it all fell together. Something toppled in Lucifer. He now understood what Gabriel had done. He could now accept it. He turned his eyes towards his brother.

“Gabriel. Tell him it's a lie.”

Gabriel ignored him.

“Don't you have anything better to say, Lucifer? You disappoint me. I didn't foresee this, child.”

Lucifer realized his fate was sealed. He would face god's judgment. There was nothing he could do to sway the decision, to prove himself innocent. He gave Lucifer one more glance.

“Neither did I, father. Neither did I.”

The creator's avatar rose it's arm. And everything dissolved.

When Lucifer opened his eyes, he was on the mound. The very first cycle had begun.

Gabriel.

Adventurer

I'm 19.
That's a pretty long life I've lived, come to think of it. Not many people reach here, you know.
And what a journey it's been!

Not that I have a clue where I am, or where I am going.

But yes, it's been fun. Trying to influence the river that is life, moulding it's course throughout the entirety, though I didn't even know where I wanted it to go, most of the time. But yes, I've tried to keep a general direction.

I've carried many names, many faces, many roles. I've been a badass, a sorry excuse, a nerd, an athlete, an inspiration, and god knows how many other things (I tend to leave out the not-so-flattering ones). But man, I've tried, and occasionally, even succeeded!

I've come far, make no mistake. Maybe I'll end up like Icarus, or maybe like Adam....or maybe like Christopher Columbus. Who knows?
There are things I've done that I'm not proud of. Then there are things I'm extremely proud of (though I'm pretty sure nobody else thinks of them as big deal). And then, there are people.
Then it gets complicated. Very complicated.
That's where I have my greatest regrets. And my greatest achievements.
I will admit, I tried to run away from them. Only to hit a brick wall over and over again till my nose got flattened and I started looking like Voldemort.

So, in light of receiving a flat nose (and having the infuriating thing gone from my vision), I can now see better (or so one would hope). I've decided, that maybe accepting and fixing your regrets is better.
For labelling them regrets doesn't do shit.

From now, I will cover memorable journeys from my past, with pictures, if possible, and hope you have fun.

Until then, ciao!

Some random art!

One boring afternoon, it's raining fire in my head -.-'

Fire. Rain. What....?
P.s. I made it. Just in case you're like my friend who thinks I pulled it off the net -__-'

Freshmen Scenes

For the first time in my life, I got to act in theatre!

Here's the link:
Freshmen Scenes, OWU (youtube link)

Do tell me how I did! :)

I made it. Cool, right? :P

Silences

An absolutely random, and utterly unexpected one here!

Seven thee sins be
And three be thee gods
Put demons alongside divinity
Ten digits thus write their ballads

Incomplete, one without other
Yet only to oppose were they made
An eternal battle to defeat and smother
But in victory, both shall fade

For if one wins, it's purpose is lost
For it's own existence, is victory's cost
Lest not the victory cheer, your senses assail
For the silence of death shall then prevail

Silence, the silence found deep in your heart
Silence, O silence, till death do us part
Silence, I shalt leave once my end doth start
Silence, thou art immortal, not unlike thine art

Why do we always create a bane?
Find a black to every white?
Life so dual; drive one insane
To divide in two, who gave the right?

Be it so hard to accept the magnanimity
Found in a life filled with calamity?
Crisises of identity, every step we take
The further you step, the closer is fate

To the silences found deep in your heart
Silences that rip your minds apart?

Silence, we shalt all leave one day soon
Silence, thou shalt exist, a curse fused to a boon
Silence, we shalt hold thy in a swoon
Silence, thy end, over the horizon doth loom

The Race is on!

Well, let’s begin with the sincerest apologies I can manage. I am sorry for not reaching out, contacting you, telling you how it is, and for some, apparently ignoring you.
I hope this will absolve some, if not all the blame so placed on me.
The simple fact would be to again say I am busy. That time is a commodity I can’t spare. But you probably need and deserve more than that. So, I’ll try to explain myself.
I’ve never been to the USA before, never been in a college before, never conceptualized a liberal arts education, or had a shared suite. I’ve never done my laundry before, never relied on a card based system for food and bed, never (to be honest) managed my own accounts.
So, my first week at OWU began as somewhat of a tempest.  Non stop classes in the day, non stop homework in the night. In the leftover time, I got to know a few people, adjusted to the weird but wonderful environment, explored my new city, state and country; its people and its roads, its day and its night. The sights I was asked for, I was still getting accustomed to them. Chock full of student interaction, club fair, job fair, day on the jay, meetings with the advisor; adding and dropping classes to make the workload less of an apocalyptic monster – I wasn’t sleeping, you see.
I barely had time to write this down, but some can be made. I don’t ignore you, but I now have a new life, and it’s time you (and I) accepted it. There are ties I must hold, and hold them I will. There are ties that I want, and I will hold them too. But time is too short, the future too tenous and tentative to hold on to the slippery past now. I must free myself of this burden; for I must race onward, towards what I’ve always wanted. If you must hold me back, begone. If you are willing to walk along, then you’re welcome to stay, and trust me, your company is appreciated, even if you can’t see it.

Later!

Duties

I think I should probably have included this in the title as well. Another heavy D in our lives. And the only one we have a semblance of control on, even if it's an illusion.

Before we begin, there are two things that come to mind, two things I must state.
Well, first, I took a leaf out of a friend's book. This time, and perhaps again someday in the future, I won't edit what I've written, except maybe the typing errors.
Second, every blog post from now on will have a song at the end, one that, in my opinion, goes with what I've written. There is a connection in my head, maybe you'll find it, maybe you'll make one of your own.

So, here I was. It was raining. It had been raining all day long. I hadn't slept the last night. Tired, fatigued. Hurting, thanks to my erratic gym workout schedule and especially due to the terrible mix of a bad cold and an allergy.
The world seems like a dreary place. I watch, looking out from inside a thick haze; a fog that's dulling all my senses. I am uncaring, insensitive. Maybe this is what is called being numb. I am tired, very tired. Weary of what has been happening.
Crashed plans, ditched meet ups, ignored friends, damaged health - I sound like a very dedicated person; dedicated to my own demise.
Maybe it's a backlash, for all that's been going on. Someone who refuses to accept my love, because she is afraid of the past; another who won't even try to understand my condition, and so mercilessly destroys what she desires. Then a child, who I don't have the heart, or the right to push away. Parents, whose predicament I refuse to understand, and who refuse to accept that of mine. A sister, who I have deceived willingly, believing it to be best for her. A friend who doesn't heed my warnings of an impending downfall.
It's not as if it's their fault. I am equally to blame. We all are. Yet, sometimes, you just have to stop trying to avoid the bullet. Sometimes, you just have to bite it.

So, there I was. It was pouring. It hadn't stopped raining, all day. I hadn't slept the last night. Calm, falling. Hurting, thanks to my erratic gym workout schedule and especially due to the terrible mix of a terrible cold and an unrelenting allergy.

I put the key to the ignition, stepped on the gas, and went off. Drove a mile. Turned, parked. And closed my eyes. Shed a tear, somewhere deep in my soul.
Then, my eyes opened. The world came rushing back.
"You can't run away from the world", said someone inside me. "You can try, but you are as you were, and always will be - at the centre of the world."
"There are duties, resposibilites - burdens and comforts you chose to carry, because you wanted to. When it gets tough, where will you run to?"
"It is time to return to who you are, accept who you will be. You can't ditch it and just run away. You chose to be a hero, now you must choose - to pay the price."

And so I got back in. Reversed. Drove back. Parked. Got out, and went back home.

I can choose, to give up. To let go of my doomed love. To cut ties with those who can't empathize. To push my people away. To stand alone. And it's tempting. I hurt, I am weary. I feel like giving up.
But I remember the voice in my head. I remember that when all is lost, hope still stands by you.
And so, I will tread the path I've always tread. Carry these scars just like my others - forgiven, but not forgotten.

We are boats, against the current. And yes, we're pushed back to the past.
Sometimes, you just have to accept it, and yet keep pushing. A paradox.
But then, a paradox ensures another.
The current is gone.
And so the future waits.
Go and love fearlessly.
And begin with yourself.

A knight in white

Now, this is a little out of schedule. But then, there are things in life that you never planned for, never prepared for.
Doesn't mean you can't appreciate them, does it?
And yes, it's another poem, for another person, who most certainly, single-handedly, gave me one of the most memorable days of my life.

We walk the straight roads tonight
Missing the love, missing the fight
Mad as I, I took a turn, turn back round
Found something that could never be found

Simple isn't the word, that I'd choose to use
Of words, I have a herd, yet not know which will fuse
With her eclectic life of troughs and crests
Of smiling through worsts and crying through bests.

Never had it easy, served on a plate
Had to first find a hunger, which to sate
Yet, human, it's not easy to be
Easier for most, to give in to destiny

Tugs and tumbles, yet holds the line
Pain and pleasure, a line so fine
Yet walks like a ballerina on fire
Holding on to her desire

I can't give her words what they deserve
Yet I can, in my heart, preserve
A portrait of a diva to kneel
A lady bound with love, velvet and steel

Unafraid to walk paths that none have dared to before
A knight in white from the days of yore

Sorry, Em. Was too lazy to post it last night. :P

And so, it begins

Standing on a spire of stone blood red, in the midst of a shattered plateau of ivory surrounded by an ocean of tears on a planet of remorse. I wonder how I got here.
It's those many years, the only thing you saw from down below was unconquerable spire of bloodstone. And so, you'd climbed relentlessly, to conquer the invincible.
And now that I'm at the apex, I've realized. The climb was never the test, this ascent isn't victory.
It is now that the conquest actually begins.
For who can look at a sea of tears and say that they'll bring hope to every drop that ever exists?

And so it is unconquerable.

But, as I've been told, I'm undeniably stupid; the impossibility of a task is but a trivial footnote to me. Has always been.
It doesn't mean I will conquer it.
But it sure as hell means I'm going to try.
And either conquer, or die.

Let's get the dice rolling, the music playing, and dance the merry dance with Lilith herself.

Just...a moment worth sharing.

Today evening, I stood at a busy intersection in Gurgaon, and had this weird moment of transience.
The cars whizzed by, horns blaring, tires squealing. Audis, Mercs, even a Bently, I think. The occasional Maruti and the one odd rusty old scooter. Sometimes, a metro passed overhead, adding it’s rattle to the cacophony. All around me were people. Their conversation felt like the water that falls on a rock in a waterfall. It was all dim, muted. Useless. Unimportant.

And then, I saw two donkeys next to the road. When I looked them, and tried to find some mirth in myself, tried to laugh at the absurdity of it all, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

They just stood there, like lost, unclaimed children. Their ears turned down, tails tucked in. Their hides coated with mud, infested by fleas. Their eyes…well, I’m not much for understanding animals, but to me, they were crying. Those huge, mournful orbs, staring at me accusingly, yet with fear. What was their crime?

Why had they become victims and refugees in their own world?

Why had they, who never moved against a religion, started a revolution, elected a corrupt politician, fasted for publicity, and never asked for their rights been punished for all of our mistakes?

Then there were the people. Tall and short. Dark and fair. Loud and quiet.  Yet, most of them had that look in their eyes. The look that says you should be satisfied with what you get, and not dream of more like an idiot, because you will fall. The look of one who has accepted defeat. The look of one whose life is a sad attempt at disguising the fact that life means nothing more than a task to survive another day to them.

They walked by, full of purpose, goals, determination. Maybe even dreams. But rarely did I see someone who actually looked like they believed that they could achieve their dreams.

To most, those dreams were burdens. Shameful, regrettable, and indestructible parts of oneself that one would rather leave in a dustbin, in some forlorn, forgotten corner of this dystopia.

I saw, and maybe I understood.

And as I stood there, it hit me.

I can’t do shit about it. I admit, I try. But who am I?

Neither those donkeys I can help, nor those people can I motivate. Even if I had a hundred men with me. Even if a thousand.

Won’t it come back to haunt us? That first, we must survive, too? That we must earn, eat and sleep. And lose ourselves to this cycle?

I don’t even know why I wrote this. But it just feels…wrong. I just felt like sharing it, this once.
I wish to do something. Fix this. Someone else can try to become a billionaire, I guess. Someone else can try for a Nobel Prize. I just don’t know what is that I should do. What is it that we should do?

Questions, questions

Questions, questions, rule the state
They come so easy, yet at such a rate
To be buried under them, is it our fate?

Many things would rather stay unborn
The deaths of the undead we shall mourn
The fabric of our existence, torn

Answers we need, but where to find?
Are the lost in the past we left behind?
Or locked away in the dungeons of our mind?

Moral, ethical, cultural they be
Sometimes, we’re blind to the answers we see
Sometimes we’d rather lose, than be set free

Questions, questions, questions abound
Yet one rises above the gigantic mound,

Do you even want the answers found?

Plus a sketch I made for this poem! :

Houdini and Da Vinci

Sometimes, I wish I could pull a Houdini, from this box of troubles. You know, wink at the world, smile, walk into the thickest of my problems and...
POOF!

and I'm gone.

But there are other times, when I'm not too frustrated, flustered. When I am on a peaceful island among my thoughts, when I feel somewhat optimistic about the dystopia our world has become. It is in those moments, that instead of Houdini, I want to become
Da Vinci.

Yes. Him. Why?
Because, I've realized that life is a matter of perception. Of inferences and conclusions. Of personality and imagination. And so I wish to have the perception of the greatest artist ever (imo). So that, instead of running away, I can instead look at my problems from a new point of view.

And suddenly, realize that they aren't problems, but in fact just a part of life that I can benefit from.

And with that, come to that the problem is actually me. For it was my vision that painted it a problem.
And so it is for all of us, don't you think?

Apathy!

Religion. One more time!

God. That one little word brings so many things to mind. The crusades. Even before that, the Greeks and the Romans. Even before them, the Mayans, and then the Babylonians.  The Aryans. All civilizations, with completely different cultures (as a whole, I believe that the few cultural similarities between all civilizations can be dismissed as coincidence, or rather, basic principles of human nature and their impacts). Different colors, different systems of governance, of society, of lifestyle. Yet, since the very birth of civilization, gods, in their various forms and connotations, have been a constant presence. Some would attribute it to a basic human need to have faith in a higher power that can influence things we ourselves cannot. I agree, but I don’t think that is all of it.

You see, there is one basic requirement of a civilization – a certain amount of civilized people.  The foundation of civilization is adherence to a common code, a basic definition of society. Norms and such. Now, it must have begun small – a few people with a similar set of personal codes (or ethics) banding together, and finding that it leads to mutual profit. All other individuals will obviously notice this betterment of life, and as is the nature of man, be curious. Yet, when this curiosity is to be sated, the small group faces a few problems – one, of explanation, for it is certainly not easy to explain one’s personal code, and even for that, first they need to arrive at the realization that it is this personal code that binds them. Second, is that of convincing. They can speak the truth all they want, yet to convince others of it being the truth cannot be an easy task. These problems, coupled with the inherent need of a superior guide would have led to the inception of the idea of a god. A representative, similar to an individual, yet an idealistic representative of the codes that they follow. Codes, that he instead of stating, personifies by his actions that he carries out in his mythical adventures.

These tales enchant, inspire. Slowly, people believe. It is a beautiful answer to the problems, and fits perfectly with the need of a superior guiding force.  And so, slowly, a religion was formed – nothing but a communal code of conduct, a way of life shared by people. And so, with a common belief, they prosper, increase. Among themselves, they hold certain benefits, a certain closeness, and so civilization is born. So, if not the foundation, religion is atleast a cornerstone to civilization.
But what I actually wanted to state here is that gods are nothing but an idealized set of rules, personifying a way of live, an ideal personification. One that inspires us. Yet, slowly, the idealization has also let to idealization of evil, of corruption, and all our emotions and desires. And all of those, tainted by the tinted glasses of human perception and experience, have led to the current state of “religion”. And led to the apathy against it.

My aim here, I guess, (if I need to have an aim), is to debase the moronic bullshit that floats around posing as “religion”. We all have religions, we all have gods. Maybe we haven’t given them a name, some mythical, mystical background and six pack abs, but in our codes and dreams, we have our god. And hence, in life, we have our religion. Just something we never realized due to the misinterpreted term.
